Questions about Church

Visitors: Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect if I attend a church service?

When you attend one of our Sunday services, you can expect to find singing based on the Word of God, prayer, reading the Bible together, and hearing teaching from the Word of God. We want our corporate gatherings to be focused on God’s greatness, on His grace, and on His Word. Typically, the song portion of our service lasts for about 20 minutes, and the sermon lasts about 40 minutes.

What type of preaching will I hear?

The normal teaching consists of reading, explaining, and applying the Word of God verse by verse or section by section through a particular book of the Bible. Occasionally we will address a specific topic or theme based upon Biblical principles.  The focus in our teaching is to show how God reveals Himself in the Bible passage.  Practical application is pursued throughout the teaching.

During our Sunday School Classes and Wednesday night services, we use a small-group approach. We study a passage of the Bible or a topic together and discuss it. Questions are strongly encouraged, and discipleship relationships grow.

Which version of the Bible do you use?

We teach and preach from the King James Version and the New King James Version of the Bible, but we do not advocate the KJV as the only inspired version of Scripture.

What type of music should I expect to hear?

The musical aspect of our congregational gatherings is governed by the New Testament teaching on music, primarily the expression “teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.”  We seek to find an appropriate balance of these three types of music. The music style of Faith Baptist would probably be considered conservative, though we incorporate newer songs that utilize sound theology and appropriate music.

Questions about Children

Do you have a nursery?

Yes. Nursery is provided during the Sunday morning service for children under 3 years of age. The nursery workers and children excuse themselves after the song portion of the service, right before the sermon begins.

Nursery is also available during Sunday evening worship, Sunday School, and Wednesday evenings, upon request. A private part of the nursery can be reserved for mothers needing to nurse their babies, and audio of the sermon is available for those wishing to listen in the nursery.

All our nursery, children’s and teens’ ministry volunteers have been through an application process, training, and background checks. At FBC we desire to raise children who love the Lord with all their heart, soul, and mind. We make it a priority to provide a safe environment for our young people. We want parents to know that we care about their children's spiritual, mental, and physical well-being.

Is it okay to bring my children into the worship service?

Yes, children are welcome! We understand each family is different, and we hope you will do what is best for your family. We want you to feel comfortable whether you decide to keep all family members together or excuse the younger ones to our nursery after the song portion of the service.
